The project is an expansion of a triplex located in Montreal to accommodate families. Thus, the Client aims to increase the number of units, which goes from 3 to 4 units, one of the units of which will have 3 bedrooms.
As its name suggests, the concept revolves around the presence of trees around. The current link that we want to preserve and enhance is the link between the building and the canopy that surrounds it. The blue of the coping, while harmonizing with the neighboring buildings, emphasizes this relationship in height, between leaves and sky. The expansion project at the back is an opportunity to reflect on the built form, based on the idea of presence and this trace of nature. The side wall is arched to optimize access to the outdoor space for residents and stands out from the original volume. The form of enlargement is literal. The protrusions exploit this circularity.
The original components on the facade are preserved and improved. The proposed brick colour is red to match the original last century appearance that dominates the surrounding cityscape. The crowning proposed is navy blue, as it was in its time. The rear extension will be covered with a set of white and brown bricks that make the transition between the old and the new. The latter draws, in a more abstract way, the foliage and the tops of the trees. The white colour of the balconies and the staircase echoes the imaginary tree: the leaf and the trunk. Thus, these come to harmonize with the set of bricks and emphasize the foliage.
