Cano project

Cano, 1st prize in the Morphopolis ideas contest on the theme “Transit Montreal”

We dreamed of Montreal.

Imagined how to celebrate it, share it and cross it. The Cano project builds on the identity of the metropolis and offers concrete solutions to the problems of transit and the quality of the pedestrian experience. It offers a prominent place for active transportation as well as a new form of public transportation that complements the existing network. This is a strong gesture for an active, healthy and ecological city, a global action plan that brings collective well-being.

We wish to set up a green flow which crosses the city and connects the various parks. The flow creates a comfortable circuit through places of interest and serves a large population. These streets or portions of streets are closed to cars and dedicated to pedestrians and active transport. The success of such a course depends on its dynamism, its efficiency and the experience it provides. The different axes connected by the flow are the Paths. Their journey experience is unique, fluid, where each portion offers practical and visual attractions depending on the neighborhood.

The Trails are unique circuits that are part of the territory and the pulse of Montreal. In summer, we discover rain gardens in the center of the streets for soil percolation. In winter, snow management is made easier by creating cross-country ski trails throughout the circuit. It is a framework for enjoying the cultural excitement, events and festivals. Vehicles are stored in terminals known as the Mills.

These are architectures for stacking vehicles, consisting of a vertical farm, a green wall and a grocery store. The Moulins become a landmark in the city and a new signature element characteristic of the Montreal landscape. The only motorized vehicles allowed on the Trails are the Aoles. These fully autonomous vehicles are designed for a pedestrian zone. They are compact, electric and suitable for people with reduced mobility. With a maximum speed of 30 km / h, they adapt to the rate of casting and are available for rental on the same principle as bixis. The Aoles could become in the future the only land transportation in Montreal. Cano is a project in a greener, more connected and safe city that places people and the flow of transit at the heart of its development.
